Shadowbinders is 5 Years Old! YAY!
If Shadowbinders was a kid it would be getting ready for Kindergarten. Sometimes it feels like we have a third child, a very needy, much like Rhen, 3rd Child. But like a child we love it very much.
That being said, Shadowbinders was 5 yesterday, 8/27, and I was so busy I forgot to even post about it. I still can’t believe it’s been 5 years since we started the comic. Of course, it has been in the works for much longer, but 5 years ago we started to put pages up online to see where it would go and here we are!
Originally Rhen was supposed to be a strong supporting character, but he kind of ran away with it and because the second lead–is anyone really surprised that he would do that? Mia was always meant to be weaker in the beginning and build as the story progressed, that was intentional. I had some people mention about her being a “weak” female lead, but sometimes things are that way for a reason. A story, much like life, changes you as you go through it. No one is going to remain unchanged as their story progresses. Thom and I have seen many changes come out of doing this comic. We have had amazing opportunities because of it. We know we are lucky and blessed to have the chance to tell this story and to have amazing readers and supporters like you. Sometimes I wonder about us and I am sure we make people wonder about us as well.
Now my apology.
I know the pages have been sporadic at best lately, and we still have the book to get out. I can assure you were are on it. Life has just been very strained lately and we are trying to get it all done. Honestly, I have ended up in the ER twice with what turned out to be severe anxiety attacks. Paying work had to come first because Mortgages don’t pay for themselves (wouldn’t it be awesome if they did though.) We are working hard to try to reach a solution so we can go back to doing more Shadowbinders and we are exploring other options as well. I can tell you that Thom is working on more pages and he is working on getting the book finished. We were hoping to have it done last year, but he had to work away (4 hours driving to and from a job) and that put us behind, but we are trying to see if I can work and he can stay home and do comics and other things. Hopefully we will have the digital version out to you soon and the books shortly after. Please be patient and hang in there. We totally did not see the tidal wave coming until we were nearly submerged by it. But, being stubborn and strong-willed, we are doing our best to course correct.
In other news we actually have a plush Winston in the works through a major plush company. If we did move forward with it they would be handling distribution and production, we may have to Kickstart it though because it will be pricey. We will see. We have the prototype (it’s so cute but we can’t show it yet) and if we decide to move forward know that it would not be delayed like the book because it is all set to go and the plush company would take care of it. When I am allowed to mention who the plush company is I will (trust me most of you have heard of them.)
So that is where we are at right now! Yay for 5 years of Shadowbinders!!!! I look forward to doing more. Honestly, Rhen and Mia have kind of taken on lives of their own and it is like watching kids grow. Our kids have imaginary siblings LOL. Oh they will probably need therapy.
Thanks for reading and please be patient as we get it all worked out. Thank you so much for adventuring with us!
