Yeah, pull a classic trope: Fully dressed, but under the covers pretending you’ve been in bed in jammies all along. I think Mia’s parents are young enough to have scene Ferris Bueller, so maybe they’ll check under the covers.
No, no, Mia, it’s not to protect women from men, it’s to protect women from themselves. See, a corset is designed (or at least, period corsets were designed) to only be able to be taken off by -other- people. The kinds of people who wore corsets were the kind of people who thought it was a status symbol for a woman to not be able to dress (or undress) herself.
And then the busk was invented so that women could throw their corsets to the wind whenever the fancy struck them! Haha. That, and they adopted the type of criss-cross lacing that only the less well-to-do and less reputable women used. Because criss-cross lacing you can tighten yourself so much damn easier. You get some serious arm muscles if you do it every day, but you can. *tried it*
And BTW–After reading many of the comments on this subject, I had No Idea that there were so many people out there willing to torture themselves with a corset!
Modern corsets are designed to be much more comfortable and convenient than period corsets and are almost never laced as tightly as was fashionable in the Victorian era, mostly because lacing corsets that tight is not just uncomfortable, but can be dangerous as well! I’ve never worn a corset, but I know a lot of people who do. They look very nice on people as long as they are worm properly! I’d love to get one myself but sadly, I have no cash.
True, of course, there were strong speakers both for and against tight lacing, as the term was. Just wearing a corset didn’t mean you had to try for a waist the same number as your age. Or less. Most people can take off 1.5-2 inches off their waist and still be comfortable. The more padding, so to speak, and/or curvy you are, the more you can pull on it. 🙂
And those who wore it began training in a special corset or from a young age to make sure minimal damage was done. A speed readjustment when you’re in your late teens or early adult years was rather painful though, yes. I’ve read a contemporary account. The girl wasn’t even allowed to sleep without it. But that’s one of the extreme cases and, in my opinion, abuse on the parent’s side.
I just discovered this comic and I am hooked! I love the story and the facial expressions are fabulous! (Also, I’m a big fan of the way you use fandom references.) I cannot wait for more!
Just a head’s up that we’re not going to be posting new pages on the website for a few weeks so we can work ahead for our Patreon backers. Don’t worry — we’re not on hiatus. New pages ARE being worked on and being posted on Patreon. Just pausing over here for a bit! We should resume updates over here in April. Thank you!!
Well, on hiatus over here. The comic is still updating on Patreon. On fact we should have two new pages this week. Once we’re ahead, we’ll resume updating on the websites.
Yep and it is good because we will have a buffer for here! So updates will be on time here! I think Thom is going to start them up next week. April 6th at the latest.

Corsets are easier to remove when they have hooks up the front . . .

I thought that she was going to face-plant in the process of running whilst trying to undo the corset.

Yeah, corsets are a pain to get off :/ Glad mine’s got front fastenings too, or I’d never get it off.
February 26, 2015 at 12:52 pm
Silly Mia! Thinking a corset could stop a determined man. 😉
Mine has ties on the sides AND in the front. Makes it much easier.

Mia’s Corset Contortions are quite amusing!

Yeah, but if Chris sees Mia in a corset, he’ll really notice she does have a shape and certainly catch his eye.

Sneakers with a dress/corset combo… clearly the best sleeping clothes…
February 27, 2015 at 5:51 pm
Corsets must have been conceived by insane fashion designers…

Shoulda’ been named “Curse-sets”…..

Its really a shame her ring can’t double as some kind of James Bond laser to cut the thing off.

The Mental Image of THAT is fairly amusing!

Not posting to the website for a few weeks, to work on paying projects, not complaining here but is that not a hiatus?
March 18, 2015 at 1:17 pm
Well, on hiatus over here. The comic is still updating on Patreon. On fact we should have two new pages this week. Once we’re ahead, we’ll resume updating on the websites.

Yep, can’t wait till you are caught up on Patreon and posting back here too! Gotta get those people paying money happy first!
