Mm. I’d have to go back and check Gaylord’s backstory, but if you can build a defensive shield for a whole city, then I wouldn’t think you’re a born loser.
Throwing all that away because you’re jealous of your brother though … now that’s loser thinking.
It’s… complicated. Once Leo is introduced, we’ll elaborate on the backstory a bit more.
In a nutshell, Gaylord always had political ambitions. But his brother… the slacker… is ranked higher than he is. Thing is, Leopold doesn’t CARE. He’s too busy gallivanting around the world as a musician.
Gaylord is uber intelligent… but he’s not respected.
Aw, poor Gaylord. He doesn’t get any of the respect he deserves. Designs an entire security system, and what does he get? A fanboy drooling over his brother.
Just a thought: perhaps you shouldn’t give too much information in these comments, just to leave the suspense hanging. It’s fun to watch things unfold without knowing exactly how 😛
We’ve tried to be selective about what we post in the comments. Then again, we figured most people are just reading the pages and not taking the time to read all the comments.
This is killing me – I’ve been totally devouring this webcomic, and now I’ve reached the end of what’s already out. And the biggest trouble is, I am completely and totally impatient.
Haha. This is the exact reason I gave up a bit of my money for the chapters that are in the comic plus app. Money well spent on my part. It’s saving my sanity since I have no patience and don’t have to wait for the pars to load. I think I killed my Internet connection while going through the archives.
Thanks for that! We weren’t sure how people would feel about buying a digital version of a comic already available online, but we tried to price them competitively and figured just being offline and ad free would be a bonus for a lot of people.
Just came across this comic the other day and got caught up. Enjoying the story and characters so far. Not sure it has been mentioned before, but it seems to pull some inspiration from Final Fantasy; Airships, a mix of magic and tech, bird-creatures that “Wark” and a character named “Cid”. And I could swear that in the chapter before last, Mia look a whole lot like Aeris from Final Fantasy 7 (cosplay opportunity perhaps?)
Thanks for reading and welcome aboard. Thom does pull a lot of inspiration from Final Fantasy. He has been a fan for years. He mentioned that there was a Cid in FF before, but his choice for “Sid” actually came from somewhere else. That is just a coincidence. But he is inspired by FF and some steampunkish anime.
On a side note when he made the chibi charms, he made the Xella a baby to look like a Chocobo as a nod to FF as well.

Some people are just born losers.
Some born losers resort to desperate measures.

Maybe we need spoiler tags? 😉

I always read the comments. It’s fun to see more theories then my own, and a lot if times the comments are pretty darn hilarious too.

I love the comments and theories as well.

Salvarola? Is that you?
No, wait. It’s Gaylord.
(Sorry, but when a city shield is mentioned, I’m reminded of that) 😛
December 4, 2012 at 8:21 am
Aw, I can’t help but think that the only thing Gaylord really needs is a hug. A really respectful one, of course.
December 4, 2012 at 12:22 pm
I think changing his glasses (and maybe get a more impressive name) would suffice to earn the respect XD
December 4, 2012 at 7:28 pm
He really does.

It was Count Gaylord, in the City Shield building with the wrench. He reminds me of Professor Plum. 🙂
