#229 | Chapter 7, Page 17 Posted by: Clownfish Studios , October 19, 2012 Comic Transcript PANEL 2 Mia: Huh. This ship reminds me of The True North. PANEL 4 Mia: And that’s a Xella! PANEL 5 Mia: Whoever wrote this journal has obviously been to Belatyr. Share! Tweet Kneon Hmm… but WHO wrote the journal…? Insectoid I’m guessing someone related to Rhen, or otherwise associated with the True North… because that’s who/where Mia always winds up near. Insectoid *cough* When she uses the ring. Curse you, tired brain! Kelly The journal belonged to Mia’s grandfather right?? So how did he get it? Kam Don’t worry, we will tell you how her grandfather got the journal….eventually. Ben I have no doubt about that, every story has its own flow, and this one is pretty enjoyable. When we finally do get to that arc I hope some of the other questions we didn’t even know we were asking are also answered, of course as is the case with a good answer more questions may come from it. LuRa Witt I suspect Mia’s grampy is from Belatyr. He was either an excaped criminal mage, or maybe her grandfather was little grampy’s parents moved to this world for whatever reason. Mia’s great-grandfather was worried about his family’s safety as someone was culling the female mages? Kneon All I can say is that the rabbit hole runs deep… Chabli The True North on her earlier days. Nice! And Rhen’s insignia with the legend “Sceau de Tiz…” is a clue I’m eager to discover in future references. The book and ring having a different seal than Rhen’s means that whoever wrote the magazine is not part of the lineage of the owners of The True North, right? And the ripped page between the xella and the True North also calls the attention … So much in so few! I love this story. I cannot express how much I enjoy it. ( PS: excuse my french-grish-ñol ) Kam I am so glad you like it. Good catch btw. astrocom uh…not to cause a fuss or anything, but I think you misspelled “vrai.” Kneon HA! I did. Curse you Engrish. Er… Fren-grish. Kneon French is in French again. This is why the internet trumps print. Lots of eyes and changes can be done on the fly. And this is also why you have your French-speaking wife proof your pages before posting. (She was sleeping. 😉 ) Kaz Due to the time shift and given the books apparent age, that would mean the True North is a fairly old ship wouldn’t it? Kneon As mentioned offhandedly by Xzavier in the last chapter, The North once belonged to Rhen’s father. So it’s at least *that* old… wickidjennie She should wear her hair loose more often! ExPaladin Aaaand up to date! o/ Kam Glad you are all caught up. Loved all your comments BTW. Fijifriend My current theory is that Mia’s grandfather was the Wanderer’s brother, the one that never came back hence why the whispering wind picked up around when Mia first came to Belatyr. Also why the wanderers have such long lifespans they might experience time by earth standards or somewhere in between. I also think that Mia is at least related to one of the female mage families as she can hear the shadows. Although that doesn’t explain the book or the fact that the box Mia got the ring from looks an awful lot like Rhen’s necklace. But the box/necklace thing could just be a common design. As for the book I gonna say more info needed. Fara I like your thinking! But the insignia on the box corresponding to Rhen’s pendant… probably not just a coincidence from common design. Fijifriend Thanks. And I just double checked, though they aren’t identical definitely very similar. Kam Yes they are very similar. Ben speaking of Mia’s grandmother, we only saw her for a few pages in chapter 1, will we ever see her in any coming pages? Mia needs someone to tell this amazing stuff to, and right now grandma is the best candidate. Kam Yes. Her grandmother will be back. R.J.R mysterious, very mysterious -smoking pipe- ida I’m pretty sure that mia is a mage, but if there are no more one mia in the case will that means that mia and rhen will be married or something later? mias grandfather wrote maby the Jornal but why he never came back like sahra did? Fijifriend Oooh…. The grandmother is the one who brought the book/box over and said it was the grandfather’s. Not to mention it is the maternal grandma so Mia being a mage is totally possible Grandma is a mage, mom is a mage, Mia is a mage. Mom can’t do magic because she never learned. Grandma doesn’t do it in public. Plus hiding out in a place where time passes so much slower is perfect. Grandma could leave for half her life but actually be gone for like 10 generations and let everything settle down. Then grandma has a new mage to teach magic too and the purge of female mages are gone. The grandpa could have just been regular Joe Schmoe from America. Angel Na definitely the grandfather, ooh he could have been one of the lost ones! sister to that crazy old lady! Fijifriend I am forced to ask where you got that picture and Name Angel. Only because I used to have a cat who looked exactly like that and her name was Angel. Fijifriend And she ran away Angel I took that picture, he’s on a floaty in the pool lol. There was a big storm so she had to have them somewhere… I guess, when the storm cleared she took her babies, but he was caught in the bedding so she left him, he was cold but alive. So I raised him from a few hours after his birth… until he was old enough to find a home for him. My dushenka moya, “little soul”; I found him a good home and now he lives on the coast (completely spoiled) as it should be. As for my name my parents gave it to me, it’s my real name. I am sorry that your cat ran away 🙁 Jolt99 Curiouser and curiouser. I wonder if perhaps Mia’s grandfather is well known on Belatyr, or at least by one of the crew members. Kam Wow! Lots of awesome theories!! I can’t wait till the “reveals” so you guys can see if you were right. Dev I think that her grand father and Rhen’s father might possibly be one in the same or that they may have been related another way. Kneon Just FYI, gang — this week we might only be posting 1 page as we’re wrapping up a big project: http://comic.shadowbinders.com/2012/10/21/a-little-behind-the-eight-ball-this-week/ Jes I just hate it when I stumble upon an awesome new comic, read through all of the archives, and find myself staring moodily at the most recent post wishing for more! Great art, great characters, and great story – definitely adding it to my reading list. 🙂 Kneon Aw, we’re working on more! Honest! Thank you so much for reading, and welcome aboard! FascinatedReader Aww, I caught up! Why are the best comics the ones in-progress?? 😀 I may be slightly in love with Rhen… Kam Welcome aboard! Glad you like it! In the future, we hope to progress more quickly. Rhen seems to have that effect on people 😉 Fara …Rhen *-* <3 Kam Don’t worry…We will see Rhen again very soon! DerelictJet Just caught up as well. This is pretty cool, +1 reader Kneon Welcome aboard! New page will be coming Thursday or Friday. Krynne Awesome comic and story! I just popped over using a link in an ad being sponsored by the fun people who write the Girl Genius webcomic. I just finished reading the entire thing here to date and am pouting because I now have to wait for the rest. 🙂 Well, no worries, I’ll be Bach… or was that Mozart? Meh, whatever composer it is, I’m it and can’t wait to see more of this great story. Kam Thanks so much! Glad to have you aboard! Kneon And so it begins! Hear Mia’s account of the start with her ongoing feud with Brianna! New MIA’S JOURNAL entry: http://comic.shadowbinders.com/2012/10/25/mias-journal-entry-13/ New comic pages should return on Friday — be there! Sophia I’m so LOVE your comic! It’s SO beautiful! Kam Awww thank you! Welcome aboard! Tuiteyfruity Is this the first time Mia has opened the book!? I bet her grandmother as been there 🙂 OH! and don’t think I didn’t notice that a page has been ripped out! Kam Well actually, several pages will be ripped out *shhhhhhhh* Rebecca Schwagerl I have been reading this story in the past day, and sadly I couldn’t stop (good for you, bad for me) I love the duality of the two worlds and all the characters are very well thought out..I am excited to see where this will go but until then I can get back to the real world for a bit since you no longer have me in your grasp, but the lore of more will have me back once again Kneon Welcome aboard, and thank you so much for reading! This week’s updates have been a little weird, but we’ll be posting a new page tomorrow night and return to normal next week. Three words: Carly Rae Jepsen. (WHAT?!) Crobderg Wouldn’t this be La Nord Vrai? Feminine since it is a ship and modifiers go after the noun. Kneon Well, we actually asked our longtime friend of the comic Antoine Gagnon, who is a native French speaker. He says… “#1: Ship in french is Vaisseau, and it’s masculine. #2: and Nord Vrai is totally not correct as far as grammar goes (would Nord True make any sense? :P) also, some qualitative in french need to be used in front of the noun.” So there we go. Kam speaks French, but will be the first to admit she’s not fluent. We *thought* it was correct… but your comment had us wondering about it enough to triple check. Thanks! Th3mix Actually, “Le Vrai Nord” means rather “The Real North”. It doesn’t sound very natural… “Le Grand Nord” might have been more accurate, I think. 😉 As a french speaker, that’s how I understood it the first time I’ve read it. 😀 Alioch I agree with “Le Vrai Nord”, beeing French myself. I just don’t understand why the book is in french while everybody speak english in both world… ? So … That mean the Grandpa is French (from our earth, not the magical one), but that he went into the other world… The Grandma (or an older grand-grand something) can be the “last-of-the-magic-woman-fleeing-to-our-world-to-save-her-life” and that explain lot of stuff. Someone should calculate if it’s possible (6h = 25 minutes or so) That doesn’t explain why The True North is the link between the 2 worlds for Mia or why she start dreaming of Rhen BEFORE getting the ring. I personnaly think that Mia is definitely a magician and that she should become Rhen’s true love … If she is not a close relative. Btw, I love this comic, really interesting storie and good drawing/color. excuse my French … Kambrea Thank you and welcome! There is a good reason for the journal to be in French. Someday it will all make sense. Amanda Wehrman lmao, I just screamed “Get a French dictionary!” at my laptop’s screen. I think I need a time-out ;p Joshua Kronengold It’s entirely possible that this has been asked before and I’ve missed it, but… I get why Belatyr -has- a name–there has been occasional congress with Earth, (and probably other worlds) so there was a reason to name the world in comparison to other worlds. But…clearly the existence of other worlds is not commonly known. So why does the common (or royal, whatevs) person know the name of the world? And why is the name of the world something so specific, rather than, say, “Earth” or “Home” or “One”? Was there once a thriving inter-worlds economy, and the (likely externally granted) name given to this world remembered in mythology even as the existence oand possiblity of travel to other worlds was forgotten? Or was this world a colony (probably the most likely possiblity, for a world with such a specific name), again with the origin left as myth but the name remembered? Purphoros I just posted something similar a few comics earlier. Good to see that I’m not the only one irritated by people giving a name to their universe.
