Panel 2
Elaina (Narration): Rhen is very protective of Andrew. He even slept in a chair by Andrew’s bed every night for a month until he could sleep alone again.
The poor thing still has nightmares.
Even now, Rhen or Winston will sit up with Andrew when he’s had a bad night.
Panel 3
Elaina (Narration): Rhen feels responsible for what happened to Andrew’s family, and he knows what it’s like to lose parents.
tristan has tried to talk to him —
Panel 4
Elaina (Narration): — to explain that even if he’d taken the job, there is no guarantee that Rhen wouldn’t have been killed just like the other mage was.
If he had, the outcome would have been the same — except that Andrew would be completely alone now.
Yet Rhen still feels responsible.

Thank you and Welcome aboard. You picked a good time to pick us up. We have moved to three days a week (we were two.)

I love it when I decide to like the most arrogant-seeming character, on the off chance that there is more to him, and then I’m proven right 😀 Although saying that, this whole scene has made me sad! 🙁

Yeah, it’s been kind of a downer. But we’ll get back to the funny soon enough. 😉

It took me a moment to see Winston draped over the chair. Aw! And is that an airship in a bottle? AWESOME.
Poor Andrew. What a backstory! And I could tell from the beginning that Rhen wasn’t as much of a jerk as he appeared. 🙂

Yes, indeedy — airship in a bottle!

Oh, this is brilliant. I love it when there’s angst material, but the characters don’t wallow in it.
Of course, there’s the offhand comment that Rhen’s lost at least 1 parent. And the panels made me sad.
(So much is right with this current chapter, despite the overflow of sad we’ve gotten the past few pages.)

Thanks! We’ve gotten past the basic character introductions and can finally get into a bit more meat storywise. (“Girl goes to this other world with a magic ring. Got it? Yeah? OK, now lets hit you with everyone’s personal baggage.”)
Rhen’s had a sad little life. We’ll learn more… later. 😉

I’m ready for the sad tale Rhen’s life story. I’ve handled worse (probably).

Thanks so much! Can you believe we *almost* went to B&W? Yeah, on second thought that wasn’t a very good idea.
