Panel 1
Elaina (Narration): His village wanted to hire a mage to fight the creatures, but they had very little money. Rhen turned them down.
Panel 2
Elaina (Narration): Instead, he took a high-paying job transporting some cargo to Anthea. In Rhen’s defense, we were all incredulous of the story — but I’m certain the lack of money was the real reason for his refusal. A few days later, we returned.
Panel 3
Elaina (Narration): Tristan spotted a crowd gathering. He and Rhen ran to investigate. The crowd was gathered around the man that tried to hire Rhen. He was mortally wounded and barely alive.
Panel 4
Elaina (Narration): The man told Rhen that his village was under attack again. They had hired another mage, but he was killed.

Interesting. If you can find a 3.5 Monster Manual 2 some of the monsters kind of sound like the Spirit of the land. Quick synopsis about the SOTL they’re an incorporeal fey that can manifest in any natural substance, but for some reason the MM2 didn’t give any examples of them possessing animals, they’re supposed to be guardians of the land. Now that I got that off my chest, I like how your making look like Rhen has a sense of guilt about the townspeople.

Rhen DOES feel guilt… on occasion. 😉
As for the monsters’ origins, well… can’t spill yet.

I think the SOTL don’t manifest as creatures because living things usually are not considered “Substances”. Also, Nature Itself is a fairly acceptable thing to get attacked by if someone’s trying to be creative. I can see many different options as to what may cause this, all of which would be an interesting storyline, as well as the delicious possibility of something i haven’t guessed yet.

Pack your bags, Rhen. You’re going on a guilt trip. 🙂

If being begged with someone’s dying breath isn’t enough to get someone to do work for free, i don’t know what is…

I stumbled on this comic last week and burned through the archives. I’m really digging it. Six chapters in, and it feels like you’re just getting started. I love the setting, you’ve got a variety of intriguing characters, and I’m eager to see where it’s all going.
I do, however, have two minor quibbles with this page. First, “incredulous” means “disbelieving” or “skeptical,” not “unbelievable” or “incredible.” Second, “mortally wounded and barely alive” seems a tad redundant. Granted, you can be mortally wounded and still survive for days. I’m just not sure why you feel the need for both here.
Like I said, though, those are minor quibbles. More important is that you’ve got a fascinating story unfolding, and it’s got me hooked. 🙂

First of all…welcome aboard! Glad to have you!!
Secondly, I was worried about whether or not the word “incredulous” would work as well. I looked it up as I was writing, and one of the definitions in the Marriam-Webster was “incredible,” I went ahead with it. I see where you are coming from there. I had the same concern.

He’s incredulous about our grammar skills.
(See what I did there?)
Seriously, I may rework that a bit and repost later tonight.
Thanks for stopping by, Paul-Gabriel!

Thanks for the warm welcome, and for taking the quibbling so well. And nice job on the edit. That reads much better now. 🙂

The number one most requested Merch item is Rhen’s coat. We are talking Cosplay right? If it was for everyday wear it would have to be made out of different materials than Cosplay and the price will be significantly higher. We ARE working on this.

LOL.. I said the exact same thing!!!! Kneon said he did it on purpose. We wondered how long it would take for someone to mention it.
